EO4SD-Urban @ UN Habitat III

The ESA-supported EO4SD-Urban project has been presented at the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (UN Habitat III) Conference in Quito, Ecuador which took place on 17-20 October 2016.
Looping slideshows displaying some of the EO4SD-Urban products suitable for supporting sustainable urban development have been played on two screens in the exhibition hall of the Conference at the stand of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). In particular, these included the built-up extent and corresponding estimated percent impervious surface derived for 25 cities worldwide, as well as 3D flights generated from very high resolution satellite imagery for different cities located in the East Asian region.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki Moon and the President of the Republic of Ecuador Rafael Correa also paid a visit to the screens.
EO4SD-Urban has the objective to support urban development through existing partnerships with financial institutions such as the Multi-Lateral Development Banks but also with national and international organisations like UNIDO, the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) or the 100 Resilient Cities.
The project Consortium acknowledges and thanks Katarina Barunica, Sustainable Urban Planning Expert at UNIDO, who presented the project at the conference.
