Workshop at Centre Regional AGRHYMET

From 12th to 14th of September, the EO4SD on Water resources was gathering more than 20 stakeholders at Centre Regional AGRHYMET in Niamey (Niger). The purpose of the workshop was to review, discuss and approve the Earth Observation (EO) demonstrations proposed for the Sahel Irrigation Support Project (SIIP).

Over three days the stakeholder group, which included researchers, ministry officials, irrigation practitioners and independent consultants, was informed, through practical examples, about the potential of the latest EO technology to provide large area monitoring of surface water resources, mapping of cropping patterns and for irrigation planning and operation. In turn, the EO4SD team received important feedback and guidance for further improving the EO products/services in order to ensure these are compliant with actual stakeholder requirements, and for understanding and assessing the needs for capacity building activities required for full utilization of the EO-based services.
